In 2016 Aleena graduated from Craven Community College and received an Associates degree in Business Administration. Along with the completing her college degree, she has been busy perfecting her passion for dance over the past fourteen years. She was a student here at Dance Theatre for eleven years. After completing all her classes as a student, Aleena decided she wanted to be a dance teacher. This year will be her fourth year teaching with us at Dance Theatre. Her passion is to keep a positive and uplifting environment for her students, while also sharing her love of dance with everyone. Aleena is looking forward to the upcoming 2017-2018 dance season.
Blaine is from Wilmington, NC. He started out his dance career at 8 years old by participating in community theatre productions and continued all the way through high school. He moved on to competitive dance where he won Dance Masters’ grand title of Mister Dance of North Carolina 2009-10, only to become 4th runner-up for Mister Dance of America that same year. He later studied Dance Performance at Oklahoma City University, and then spent over three years sailing around the world and visiting six out of the seven continents dancing on various cruise ships. His favorite experience was on the Disney Magic, where he understudied such roles as Aladdin and many others. He is excited to be back home and teaching at Dance Theatre again. Blaine has appeared in: Priscilla Queen of the Desert (Felicia/Adam), A Chorus Line (Mark), Rent (Angel), Kiss Me, Kate (Hortensio), Cats (Mistofelees), Aladdin (Magic Carpet) and over 75 other productions over the last 15 years. He is always and forever grateful for the tremendous support of his rockstar grandparents who have always supported him and allowed him to chase his dreams. “Without them, I’d be nothing. Sarah has been dancing since she was 7 years old. She has experience in Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, Tap, Pointe, and Lyrical. She graduated from West Craven High School and is currently a nursing student at Craven Community College working towards an Associate Degree in Nursing. Sarah is a Certified Nursing Assistant and has Basic Life Support training. Sarah has performed at numerous local events including Mumfest, New Bern Christmas Parade, Trent Woods Parade, Tree Lighting Ceremony, and Relay For Life. She was also on the dance ensemble of a high school play. Sarah was a teaching assistant at Dance Theatre last year, and has experience teaching classes of all age groups. She is excited to teach dance and share her love for it with others.
Originally from Rhode Island, Gina began dancing at a young age. She took Ballet and Jazz growing up, but found a new love for Ballroom Dancing while in college. Gina was a competitive Ballroom Dancer throughout her undergradrate years, and served as her college team's president. She coordinated her college's hosted competition, and annual showcase. Gina received her Bachelors degree in Social Work from Rhode Island College, and a Masters degree in Social Work from East Carolina University. Gina loves Ballroom and sharing that love with others. She will be teaching a beginner Ballroom class, and offering a class for couples interested in a learning a routine for their wedding.

Founder and former owner of Dance Theatre and Dance Factory for 25 years, students of Dorrie Lydem Benners have earned regional, national and international recognition. Her students include female top ten finalist of FOX network’s “So You Think You Can Dance,” various dance competition and pageant titles, scholarships and acceptance into the North Carolina School of the Arts. They have appeared and landed roles in television, major motion pictures, music videos, Walt Disney World, productions of New York Philharmonic and many Broadway shows including “Hamilton,” “Bring It On: The Musical,” “A Bronx Tale: The Musical,” “Pippin,” and “Motown The Musical.” Many of Dorrie’s students have also continued on to pursue dance education degrees and are now teaching dance or performing professionally. Dorrie has received numerous choreography and staging awards, and is renowned for providing strong technique, terminology, precision, and life-long skill-sets throughout her many years of concentrated, welcoming, and upbeat dance classes. She will offer intermediate, advanced and adult tap classes for the 2017-18 dance season.
In love with dance since the age of four, Becca has acquired seventeen years of dance experience. Dance Theatre has been her second home, and she could not be more excited for it to continue to be apart of her life. While at Dance Theatre Becca assisted dance classes for three years. She also was a part of the award-winning team at Dance Theatre that received overall placements at multiple competitions. The past three years she has expanded her experience to include choreography - choreographing for the high school musical “Oliver!” and “Grease,” and choreographing for Rivertowne Players “White Christmas” and “The Sound of Music.” In the fall of 2014, Becca was chosen through an audition process to dance as a part of Meredith College’s Jazz and Tap Company. She is also very involved with her community, and has danced in church and school events. She is looking forward to sharing her love and passion for dance with future students.
